In the summer of 2003, Lake in the Hills Youth Athletic Association expanded their 40+ year history of in-house baseball to include a travel program known as Thunder Baseball.

In 2007, we became a 501(c)(3) organization. The vision of those pioneering travel ball within Lake in the Hills was to provide an opportunity for players age 10 – 15 to play at higher levels of competition than could not be provided within our league play. Today, our program includes teams from age 9u through age 17u.

In 2008, the program achieved a milestone as Thunder Baseball received host status to the 9u, 11u and 15u USSSA National Championships from the McHenry County Youth Sports Association, which replaced the CABA World Series, held in Crystal Lake since 1993.  Today, our teams participate in the 11u, 13u & 15u tournaments which enters its 25th year. This is important to our program because while the 11u & 13u events are open to any team to register, only the hosts can participate in the 15u tournament making this a very special year for our players.

In playing for Thunder, it is our desire that our players develop the skills required to excel at the next level. Whether that level is on the field, in the classroom or in the job market, it is our hope that Thunder players will be provided with the tools required to succeed. It is equally as important to us that our players learn about:

Winning is a priority to every individual and team that plays at a competitive level; however, learning what it means to compete and learning how to achieve success consistently, particularly when faced with adversity, develops character.  How we conduct ourselves in all outcomes is imperative to the growth and development of our players.

Whether we are practicing, scrimmaging, competing, or representing our team, program, or community, the Thunder program is committed to 100% effort,  a unified voice, and providing strong, moral principles in the way we approach the game.
We stress roles, competition, and playing for the name on the front of the jersey as opposed to the name on the back.  We teach our players to embrace roles, seize opportunities,  and play for a common goal.
There are many different ways to lead.   The Thunder program is dedicated to teaching our players how to display leadership in a way that is attainable to each individual.  We may not all be natural born leaders, but we can all develop leadership qualities that contribute to team success.
We believe in giving back to the community.  We request each team fulfill a Community Service Project to emphasize our gratitude for our community’s support.
