Is there an update for 2012 Bat Standards?
There has been some talk that the Bat Standards will be changing for 2012. USSSA will be meeting the end of November to discuss the bat standards for 2012. They will then announce their position on the new standards. As further information is available we will do our best to pass it along. This is just a "suggestion" from the league to postpone your bat purchase until the ruling has been made.
On October 22, many volunteers were on hand to complete two drainage projects and a dirt project at Sunset Park. The drainage projects between Sunset #1 and #2 and behind the quad at Sunset #5 and #6 should help the fields drain faster and avoid the loss of infield mix. This included digging a trench, laying the drainage tile, and back filling with rocks and dirt. Grass seed was also spread. At the same time, dirt was applied to the outfield fence at Sunset #2 to bring the field back up to the level of the outfield fence, which will help keep baseballs in the field of play. This was also seeded with a layer of straw to help prevent the seed from blowing away. None of this would have been possible without the support of the Village of Lake in the Hills and all the volunteers. My thanks go out to the following people that made all of this possible: Mark Lonigro, Ralph LaBuda, Todd Damasky, Jeff Kolozsy, Jim Pellegrino, and Todd Martin who had nearly 20 volunteers at Sunset Park. Thank you to Jerry Marsh and Trevor Bosack, from the Village of Lake in the Hills Public Works and Park and Recreation Departments, for all of their expertise and support. Also, a special thank you to Brad Tharp who donated his time and efforts into digging the trenches for the project which made all drainage projects possible.
On October 29, a similar drainage project was completed at Plote Field. Thank you to Tyler Eckman from the Village of Lake in the Hills Public Works. His help was instrumental in completing the drainage project along the warning track on the third base side of the field.
Thank you to all volunteers.
